Leadership Development
Leadership is not an innate quality; rather it is a combination of skills, aptitudes and perspectives that can be learned and developed.
Leaders can continually develop and build their influence and impact through practice and frequent opportunities to reflect and receive feedback. Leadership Development or Executive Coaching is the ideal tool to facilitate this type of bespoke development and growth.
Research validates that the benefits of executive coaching are as follows:
- Greater clarity and focus on their leadership roles and responsibilities
- The safety, freedom and time to reflect on themselves, both at work and in their personal lives
- Increased awareness and appreciation of their strengths
- Improved emotional intelligence ie better awareness of themselves, their impact on others and hence improved relationships
- Better ability to manage conflict, ensuring that it is healthy and constructive
- Greater influence with stakeholders
- Improved ability to inspire and motivate staff to maximise performance
- Better strategic thinking
- The focus and accountability to facilitate the desired development, ensuring the change is embedded and sustainable.
How do we work with our clients?
For larger organisations wishing to set up an Executive Coaching programme to include a number of leaders, we will design a bespoke programme to meet the needs of the business. Our typical approach is set out below:
Phase 1 – Contracting
It is important at the beginning of the programme that clear contracting is carried out between the client (the person commissioning the programme), the coachee and the coach. The purpose of the three-way contracting is:
- to ensure that expectations are clearly aligned
- to agree that the content of the coaching will remain 100% confidential and that nothing discussed in the sessions will be shared (unless there is a risk of harm to either the coachee or the client business)
- to discuss the options for stakeholder feedback (using a 360° instrument) as required
Phase 2 – Coaching
A programme of 4-6 weekly coaching sessions each lasting between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the coachee’s learning style and their schedule.
Phase 3 – Evaluation
The final part of the programme is the evaluation of its effectiveness and impact. This would be carried out via a post-coaching questionnaire for completion by each coachee.
Finally, a meeting will be held between the coach and the key client to review the impact of the programme and the follow-up required, to ensure the continued support and development of the coachees.
Leadership Assessment
A personalised and high impact approach which many clients are now using as part of their Executive Coaching programme, is the use of the Everything DiSC® Work of Leaders assessment tool, specifically designed around leadership. It not only provides a structure for understanding the role and the skills of a leader, but it also helps each person to discover their own personal style of leadership and the impact this style has on others and their effectiveness.

How does it work?
The assessment is carried out online and takes a maximum of 20 minutes to complete. At the beginning of their coaching programme, they will receive a 23 page personalised report which:
- Introduces the DiSC profile and the Work of Leaders model
- Offers an overview of each DiSC leadership style
- Identifies their own DiSC leadership style
- Details their style and behavior in relation to 18 key behaviors
- Identifies their strengths and challenges as a leader
- Outlines strategies for improvement in each of the key areas
- Provides thought provoking questions to initiate positive change
