Have you got an eye on your “trust” account?
As a leader, “trust” is one of the pre-requisites of a high performing team. So, ask yourself how much credit do you have in your “trust” account?
Creating a culture of openness and transparency in your team is critical to achieving impressive results. So impressive, that those around you are curious as to what your secret is! Maybe it’s perceived as a secret because it’s implicit in everything you do; quite simply you have a deep trust in each other, such that you can openly explore anything that isn’t working, without any blame or retribution. This means that no stone remains unturned and you can have confidence that any potential barriers to maximising performance, will be uncovered and challenged.
Here are three quick tips for leaders to build the credit in their “trust” account:
- Be vulnerable and acknowledge your own mistakes and areas of weakness
- Meet with the team regularly to look at what could be improved
- Focus on the problems and not on blaming people
When I start working with a client, the first step is to paint a clear picture of what they want, so in this context:
- How do you want to be as a leader?
- What specific behaviours do you want to be displaying on a daily basis?
